Calm and motivated, the Mexican Juan Pedro Franco, believed to be the most obese man in the world, on Monday is preparing for an operation that will reduce his stomach size and hopes that this will enable him to enjoy his hobbies, something he could not do weighing 595 kilos.
After being transferred from his hometown Aguascalientes, Juan Pedro is expected to arrive on Tuesday at a hospital in the western Mexican city of Guadalajara, where he will undergo a surgery that will reduce the capacity of his stomach into the equivalent of a glass of water (about 25 centiliters), instead of the current five liters.
In an interview with EFE, Juan Pedro said that the surgery "will very much change my life."
For months, Juan Pedro, 32, has followed a Mediterranean diet, mostly vegetables and fruits, which has helped him lose 175 kilos before the operation.
In addition to this change in diet as a preparation, which he said was no great effort as he is "accustomed" to being on a diet, he has also received psychological treatments and did some exercise on a stationary bicycle.
"I am calm, relaxed and motivated to enter (the operating room) tomorrow," said Juan Pedro.
Juan Pedro also draws on his faith and believes that "everything will go well."

After this first operation, which will last about 20 minutes, he will undergo another by-pass in the intestines in November to make him digest faster.
The primary goal of these surgeries is to reach the weight he wants to be, 120 kilos, which would allow him to return to those hobbies he misses, such as driving, playing music (he plays guitar, bass and keyboard), and even to work.
Juan Pedro said he was "eager," but he knew that he has to be patient, since the process of recovery and adaptation will take time.
