A local woman-owned bakery with a ‘pretty’ impressive knack at creating delicious treats
Pretty Tasty Cupcakes morphed into a community hub for Conshohocken amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
What started out as a healthier alternative for Erica Young's son, is now a flourishing bakery and a neighborhood staple.
Pretty Tasty Cupcakes, which is located in the heart of Conshohocken, is a one of a kind business focused on being 100% peanut-free, which is very important to the customer base.
“For people who have peanut allergies, this spot is a godsend for them, they can never go into a bakery or any other grocery store and get a treat that they can safely have,” said Lara Mohr, the third owner of Pretty Tasty Cupcakes.
In fact, people come all over the state to get their hands on the artisanal, hand-crafted pastries.
“On my first week here, we had a customer fly from Harrisburg and come here just to get a dozen cupcakes,” she said.
Pretty Tasty Cupcakes was founded in November 2017, and has been developing relationships with its customers throughout every occasion they celebrate.
“We are so glad and grateful to have customers that trust us to make their baked goods,” said Mohr.
The connection has grown even closer amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the trying past year, the bakery quickly became part of everyone's life in the community, especially since most venues, and other public spaces were closed to the public.
People found that by creating an elaborate and unique cake counteracted the absence of birthday parties amid COVID-19.
“I didn't think that we were going to be super important during the pandemic, but having a little normalcy and being able to celebrate events was super important,” said Mohr.
The small business took a few days to decide what they were going to do with their quaint bakery.
“Montgomery county was the first county to shut down in the very beginning of the pandemic, so we didn't really know what to do,” said Mohr.
Still, loyalty was a must for Pretty Tasty Cupcakes to survive the year.

“We would not have been able to make it if it weren't for them,” she said.
For starters, the bakery has never been sit-down, but is open for indoor pickup and owners are excited to display some brand new recipes that Mohr and other bakers have been developing.
One specific cupcake is the Carrie Bradshaw, which is a nod to the main protagonist of the popular HBO show, Sex and the City.
The cupcake is a vanilla bean cake filled with vanilla pastry cream and topped with a vanilla buttercream.
Another favorite that sells out fast is their Deep Fried Oreo cupcake.
It's an oreo baked into a vanilla cupcake topped with cookies and cream buttercream.
As their small business continues to grow, Mohr and her business partners are thinking about looking for a bigger space so they can better serve their customers.
