Dolores Huerta receives Honoris Causa Doctor of Science Degree from the University of Southern California
The tribute will be held as part of the celebration of the 93 years of the emblematic American labor leader.
In addition to celebrating her 93rd birthday and her Honorary Doctor of Science recognition from the University of Southern California, the Dolores Huerta Foundation recently announced that it is also inviting elected officials, unions, and community activists to raise money for the Dolores Huerta Peace and Justice Center’s Capital Campaign.
Huerta stated in a press release:
I am humbled to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Southern California. This esteemed institution of learning has graduated the likes of legendary community organizer, Fred Ross, who trained both Cesar Chavez and me.
Fundraising
But far from stopping to celebrate, Huerta and her foundation are taking advantage of this important moment to strengthen their social justice programs.
The fundraising event ‘Dancing with Dolores,’ which requires prior registration, will take place Friday, May 12, and will be attended by Huerta along with special guests, such as María Brenes, Nalleli Cobo, and Hilda Solis, who will be honored for her commitment and accomplishments in climate justice, community organizing, leadership, and advocacy.

“Education is the most powerful antidote to ignorance and hate. Our democracy thrives with a fully informed and educated citizenry. At this critical moment, I feel it is of the gravest importance that we come together on all fronts to defend and champion our democracy,” pointed out Huerta.
About Dolores Huerta Foundation
The Dolores Huerta Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to inspire and organize communities to build volunteer organizations called ‘Vecinos Unidos’ chapters empowered to pursue social justice.
Members of these chapters develop community organizing, civic engagement, and leadership skills by working to advocate for health, environmental, education, and youth development policies in their communities.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to reach the age of 93 and look back on the accomplishments made by the Dolores Huerta Foundation, which I founded 20 years ago. We have made real improvements in the lives of students, women, LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters, immigrants, and communities of color, but we know we have not yet achieved the equity we deserve. I look to shepherding in a future where we work to achieve a world that is just and fair for all!” concluded Huerta.
