The new television series, Taste of the Border will take Latina chef Claudia Sandoval to travel the border between Mexico and the United States, from San Diego to South Padre Island, covering 3,150 kilometers. The series is a food travel show that seeks to show the mix of flavors and cultures between both countries.

According to a Discovery+ press release, Sandoval "will explore the diverse culinary landscape of often-overlooked border towns."

"Having grown up along the border herself, Claudia is uniquely suited to highlighting the delicious and surprising food delighting locals and visitors, as she eats her way through a food road map and explores some of these towns,” reads the rest of the release.

“Growing up as a border town kid myself, I have seen first hand the richness we share on both sides of the Border, not just thru cultural norms, interest, and even music, but through the thing that unites all people, a delicious meal!” the Latina chef wrote in a post on Instagram.

“The word 'border,' usually comes loaded with differing political views and perspectives, but this new series isn’t about that, it's about the people, cultures, and food, that call these border towns home. And let me tell you, it's just loaded with awesome ingredients, wholesome stories, and garnished with some surprising culinary gems you can’t imagine finding on both sides of the Border,” she added.

Taste of the Border will air on May 5 on Discovery + and will make Sandoval the first Latina to host a food travel show on American television.

Who is Claudia Sandoval?

Claudia Sandoval was born in San Diego, California to a family originally from Mazatlán, Sinaloa. From a very young age, Claudia was curious about food and learned to cook with her mother and grandmother.

Her talent led her to win the sixth season of MasterChef U.S. She is currently a MasterChef Latino judge, a reality competition that airs on Estrella TV.

After her triumph on the popular TV show, Sandoval founded her own culinary consulting company called Claudia's Cocina. She also published a book called Claudia's Cocina: A Taste Of Mexico, which became a bestseller in 2016 and where she reflects her modern version of Mexican coastal cuisine.

In addition to gastronomy, Sandoval works closely with several nonprofit organizations that develop community activities in San Diego.
