After a year of cancellation and postponement, one of the most famous film festivals, the Cannes Film  Festival, finally returns on July 6.

Mexican director Tatiana Huezo stands out among the nominees for a Palme d'Or, with her first fiction film, Noche de fuego. It's a film based on the novel, Prayers for the Stolen, by Jennifer Clement.

The will film compete in the "Un Certain Regard" category

Noche de fuego was produced by Pimienta Films, and tells the history of a six-year-old girl who decides to change her appearance to that of a boy to live "safer" in a painfully macho and violent country.

Shot in a small town in Querétaro's Sierra Gorda, the film portrays the friendship of three girls who live in a place so dangerous for women, they have underground hiding places to escape the threat of being kidnapped, and their mothers train them to run away from death and to escape from those who would turn them into slaves.

"It is a history that speaks of love, friendship, loyalty, but above all it speaks of an honest look at violence and the silence of the adult world, I think that is the essence of the film," said Huezo during the presentation of the film.

The Mexican-Salvadoran director earned an international reputation with her first documentary, El lugar más pequeño (The Smallest Place) in 2011. She won the Fénix Award for "Best Documentary" at the Goya Awards in 2016 with Tempestad (2016)

This work by Huezo is the continuation of her documentary work and the third production with Pimienta Films.

"With other tools, with other resources, but Tatiana is in every brushstroke of the film, in everything: frames, images, performances, dialogues," explained Nicolás Celis, founder of the production company.
