John Leguizamo's new documentary series, American Historia, is out to tell the story of some of the Latino characters that have marked the history of the United States over the years, according to a statement from the series' collaborators — The WENT Group and VOCES, of Latino Public Broadcasting (LPB).
As revealed by EFE, the project is based on his play Latin History for Morons, which premiered in 2018 and was nominated for a Tony Award.
Through a post shared by the San Antonio Film Commission on Facebook, it was learned that the Colombian actor has been filming in San Antonio, Texas for part of the story.
"Through this series, our mission is to continue to celebrate the incredible contributions Latinas and Latinos have made to this country and beyond, which have often been left out of the pages of history," said Ben DeJesus, a producer who joined Leguizamo on the project, in a statement.
American Historia will be a three-part series, where each episode will combine visits to historical sites, interviews with professional historians and important figures in Latino culture.
The series is expected to premiere this Fall on PBS.
