Melissa Barrera, as Sam Carpenter, and Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter, have both been cast in the latest movie in Scream series, created by the American screenwriter and director Wes Craven.

The Latina actresses will reprise their roles as sisters in Scream 6, Paramount Pictures confirmed. Both were also part of the last film in the franchise, released in early 2022, which raked in $140 million at the box office.

In addition to Barrera and Ortega, the cast of Scream 6 will feature Jasmin Savoy Brown (as Mindy), and Mason Gooding (as Chad), who plays twin brothers and are the nephews of an original Scream character.

As shared by Paramount Pictures, "the saga will continue with the four survivors of the Ghostface murders, as they leave Woodsboro behind and begin a new chapter."

The shooting of the Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures franchise will begin next Summer and will premiere in March 2023.

Scream 6 will be directed by American actor and screenwriter Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and American producer Tyler Gillett.

Who is Jenna Ortega?

Ortega was born in California into a family of Mexican and Puerto Rican heritage. She started acting when she was only nine years old. She is currently 19 and worked on movies like Iron Man 3, The Fallout, Song bird, The Babysitter: Killer Queen, and Scream 5.

In 2021, director Tim Burton chose her for a leading role in Wednesday, the spin-off of the well-known Addams Family produced by Netflix.

This is the first time the character of Wednesday Addams, from the famous Addams family, is played by a Latina actress. It's the main reason that led the young actress to accept the role, as she had commented in an interview.

“A big part of the reason I signed on is because she’s technically a Latina character and that’s never been shown or represented. As someone who struggled, and still struggles to this day, with some sort of feeling of representation or relatability in mainstream media and film and television, I recognized this was an opportunity for me,” she said.

Who is Melissa Barrera?

Barrera is Mexican and 31 years old. She's played parts in small and big screen productions. Among them are In the Heights, Twice you, and in the telenovelas Siempre tuya Acapulco and Tanto amor.

Like Ortega, Barrera is proud to show her origins in the entertainment industry.

"It's very nice not having to justify your presence or your nationality when they give you a piece of paper, because for a long time they labeled us, they put a stamp on us in the movies," she said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

In addition to Scream, the actress is starring in a movie called Bed Rest that will premiere this year.
