Who are the Latinos nominated for the Golden Globes
The films 'Argentina, 1985' and 'Pinocchio' by Guillermo del Toro are the only films directed by Latin Americans that are nominated for Golden Globes.
Argentina, 1985, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, tells the story of prosecutors Julio Strassera and Luis Moreno Ocampo, who in 1985 brought the commanders of the last dictatorship of the country to trial. The military was accused of having committed crimes against humanity during the regime of Jorge Rafael Videla.
The film, directed by Santiago Mitre, is inspired by these real events and shows how both prosecutors handled the case without being intimidated by political power and threats.
Available on Prime, Argentina, 1985 received the nomination for 'Best Picture - Non-English Language' at the upcoming Golden Globes.
Alongside this Latin American production is 'Pinocchio' by Guillermo del Toro, which is nominated in the categories 'Best Animated Film,' 'Best Soundtrack' and 'Best Song.' The film, directed by the renowned Mexican director, "gives a twist to the classic tale of the wooden puppet that comes to life in this stop-motion animated musical."
It is also available on Netflix.
