Ana de Armas criticizes age restrictions on 'Blonde'
The Motion Picture Association of the United States has rated the film for ages 17 and older. De Armas plays Marilyn Monroe.
According to the Motion Picture Association's website, earlier this year, the upcoming film Blonde received an NC-17 rating due to "some sexual content."
This means that the film is only recommended for adults and no one under the age of 17 should watch it.
Cuban actress Ana de Armas, who plays Monroe in the film, spoke out against the rating in an interview with L'Officiel magazine, of which she is the cover, and of Monroe's hypersexualized personality. She said it was a reflection of her own desires and how people took advantage of her, something that Andrew Dominik, director of the film, wanted to address head-on.

"I didn't understand why that happened," Armas said of the rating.
"I can tell you about a whole series of shows or movies that are much more explicit, with much more sexual content than Blonde. But to tell this story it's important to show all those moments in Marilyn's life that made her end up the way she ended up," she added.
"It needed to be explained. Everyone [cast members] knew we had to go to uncomfortable places. I wasn't the only one," de Armas continued.
The film will be released on Sept. 8 on Netflix.
