Luis Fonsi and Becky G represented Latin music at the Oscars with "We Don't Talk About Bruno"
Their performance was applauded by those present at the Dolby Theater, but social media cited a lack of energy.
Luis Fonsi and Becky G assured that they intended to bring Latin culture to the top of the movie world. It led to a long-awaited performance at the Oscars, where they jointly performed the song "We Don't Talk About Bruno," from the soundtrack of the movie Encanto. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion also took part in the performance.
Actor John Leguizamo was in charge of introducing the Latin duo. Fonsi stepped out in a flashy light blue blazer, while Becky wore a bright yellow suit.
“I am happy to be here for the first time and to be part of a song that, as a father, I have heard many times at home. A song that celebrates Colombia, our culture, our language, and the flavor of Latinos,” Fonsi said on the red carpet.
The performance was applauded by those present at the Dolby Theater, but dozens on social media pointed to a lack of energy. Among the most notorious critics, many said: "it is a disgrace that the production and the singers turned such an incredible song into a horrible show, with singers who have nothing to do with the film."
Others protested that the big Latin stars did not give way to the new talents who also sang in the film. Originally, the song was composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and performed by Carolina Gaitán, Mauro Castillo, Daniela Sierra, Juanse Diez, Isabel Garcés, and Olga Lucía Vives.
