In her victory speech, Anitta was very conscious of the importance of the award she had just won for Best Latin Video.

"Tonight I performed here a rhythm that for many years in my country was considered a crime. I was born and raised in the ghetto of Brazil. For those of us who were born there, we could never have thought that this would be possible. Thank you so much," she told the crowd

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) were held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

According to EFE, Anitta's song "Envolver" was up against Bad Bunny's "Tití me preguntó," Daddy Yankee's "Remix," Farruko's "Pepas," J Balvin and Skrillex's "In Da Getto," and Becky G and Karol G's "Mamiii," in the running for Best Latin Video.

The awards ceremony also featured a live performance by Anitta.

Colombians J Balvin and Ryan Castro brought Latin rhythms to the packed concert hall, where the performances set the pace for the awards and virtual reality was present.

The gala was hosted by singers LL Cool J, Jack Harlow and Nicki Minaj. Minaj was the recipient of the honorary Lifetime Achievement Award, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and the award for Best Hip-Hop Video.
