In the Soyapango municipality of San Salvador, El Salvador, the record for world’s largest pupusa has been broken.

A pupusa has been created that measures 15-feet in length, beating a previous record of 14-feet set in 2015.

The previous record was held by a collection of people who made a pupusa in Olocuilta, El Salvador.

It took 40 chefs to craft the most recent record-breaking pupusa.

It was formed with ingredients that included 1,545 pounds of quesillo, beans, masa, and chicharrón.

After the ingredients were prepared and spread across the chefs’ canvas, the pupusa was cooked over a charcoal-fueled, grill-like setup.

Once complete, the oversized meal was split and enjoyed among interested individuals to their satisfaction.

Telemundo was on the scene in San Salvador to capture the monumental moment. Telemundo has also uploaded the accomplishment for the world to see:

The pupusa is the national dish of El Salvador.

On every second Sunday of November in El Salvador, the country celebrates National Pupusa Day. The national holiday was enacted through legislative decree in 2005.

The pupusa dates back to pre-colonial times, and resembles a thick griddled cake or flatbread made with cornmeal (masa harina) or rice flour. That cake is then stuffed with an assortment of things like refried beans, cheese, pork or chicken.
