The Road to "El Dorado": Shakira Shines in her New Album
Colombian megastar Shakira's 11th studio album El Dorado raced to No.1 on iTunes charts in 28 countries following its release on May 26.
Shakira, Colombia’s most famous pop star, released her latest album El Dorado last Friday May 26, 2017. And in less than a weekend, the album reached No. 1 on the hit lists.
One of the hit songs off her new album is Chantaje (Blackmail) featuring Colombian heartthrob Maluma. The song describes loving a Colombian pretty well: “Puro, puro chantaje, Siempre es a tú manera. Yo te quiero aunque no quiera.” (Pure, pure blackmail, it’s always your way. I love you even if I don’t want to.”), as reported in New York Latin Culture.
In her new album, Shakira has also included a couple of songs about her relationship with her husband, FC Barcelona player Gerard Piqué, with whom she has two kids.

The album also contains some traditional Colombian rhythms, like Vallenatos and Bachatas, inspired by Carlos Vives. It’s not the first time the two musicians worked together. Last year, Shakira and Vives’s “La Bicicleta” won the “song of the year” award at the Latin Grammys.
Inside El Dorado there are also two reaggeatons, Perro Fiel (Faithful Dog) with Nicky Jam, and What We Said, in English with Nasri Atweh.
