Raising children is never easy, especially as a single parent. Luckily, there are many private and public resources that any parent can take advantage of, especially local fathers who may need a helping hand.

Project Developing Active Dads (D.A.D)

Project D.A.D. is an initiative funded by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families. Its mission is to connect fathers to their children by providing them with employment services, case management, and computer literacy and training for non-custodial parents in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

Intercultural Family Services, Inc. (Intercultural)

Founded in 1979, the Intercultural Family Services, Inc. is an independent non-profit 501 (c)(3) that focuses on family development and support, especially in the Greater Philadelphia Area. The initiative offers a variety of services for family building and support including home-buying and maintenance literacy programs, foreclosure prevention, and language-learning and access programs, for example. They offer a 24-hour hotline for assistance in English and Spanish for guidance on their programs.

Parent Action Network

Run by the Philadelphia Department of Human Services, the Parent Action Network commits to providing a variety of resources for parents and teens but especially a support group for fathers in addition to the programs and initiatives that the Department of Human Services provides. Fathers can also take advantage of including information on how to become a foster parent.

ACHIEVEability

Achieveability is a non-profit for single parents that provides further information and assistance in a variety of areas including finance, education, financial development, and housing. The profit focuses on providing initial assistance so that those who receive assistance from the organization are eventually independent and able to sustain themselves well after the initial programs.
