Ana de Armas, Karol G set to make SNL history as host and musical guest
Ana de Armas will be the host and Karol G will be the musical guest for the April 15 episode, marking the first time two Latinas will be in roles.
Saturday Night Live has been on the air for 48 seasons, having aired more than 900 episodes.
Despite the long history, next week’s episode will mark a first-time occurrence.
It was announced last month that Ana de Armas will host the April 15 episode of the show, while Karol G will be the musical guest.
This will mark the first time in the show’s history that two Latinas will serve as both the host and the musical guest, respectively, on the same episode.
The Cuban-Spanish actress, de Armas, will be making her SNL hosting debut on that night. She will be the fourth Latino to host the show this season, after Aubrey Plaza, Pedro Pascal, and Jenna Ortega all took on hosting duties this season.
Her SNL hosting debut is just days before the premiere of de Arma’s newest movie, “Ghosted,” which is set to debut on Apple TV+ on April 21.
Last year, she became the first Cuban woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the movie, “Blonde.”
Karol G will also be making her first appearance on SNL as the musical guest on April 15.
The Colombian reggaeton singer-songwriter has been making history in her own right.

Her latest album, Mañana Será Bonita, recently became the first all-Spanish album by a woman artist to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. It is likely she performs at least one song from the album during her SNL debut.
Karol G is one the most successful Colombian music artists today, having won 2 Billboard Music Awards, 3 Billboard Latin Music Awards, 2 Latin Grammy Awards, and 9 Latin American Music Awards, among several others.
In a few months, Karol G will also make history as the first Latina artist to headline Lollapalooza, one of the longest-running music festivals in the country.
SNL has long had a lack of Latinx representation, with only five individuals of Latino descent ever being a regular cast member, including just one current cast member in Marcello Hernandez.
The April 15 edition of SNL will be one for the history books among the Latinx audience.
SNL airs every Saturday evening at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
