Tim Burton's labyrinth in Madrid
An immersive experience through the mind and creations of renowned American film director Tim Burton will soon open in Madrid.
Madrid will be the first city in the world to open an exhibit based on the creative universe of the American filmmaker Tim Burton.
The exhibition will offer a journey through the different stages of the career of the American producer, writer and cartoonist, who has created world-renowned feature films such as Beetlejuice (1988), Batman (1989), Edward Scissorhands (1990), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), The Corpse Bride (2005), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) and Alice in Wonderland (2010).
"Tim Burton. The Labyrinth” will include original sketches that have been provided by Burton himself for the occasion. Throughout the labyrinth, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in rooms decorated with lights, music, scenery, and costumes inspired by his works. The public will be able, for example, to cross the gloomy forest of The Corpse Bride, discover the Tragic Toys or the story of Oyster Boy, and manage not to lose their heads with the Queen of Hearts.
The tour lasts approximately one hour and its organizers warn that the exhibition has strobe lights, so it is only recommended for people over 14 years of age.
The immersive experience will run in the Spanish capital from Sept. 29 to Dec. 11 and tickets are already on sale online.

The date of the exhibition coincides with Burton's own visit to Madrid, as he will be appointed as the city's first ambassador. This recognition has been created by the Madrid City Council to reward personalities who, at an international level, carry out outstanding work for the benefit of the city.
The award has been highly criticized by the local press as the American director never shot a film, nor did he live or have a house in the Spanish city. His ties with Madrid are scarce, if nonexistent.
Who is Tim Burton?
Timothy Walter "Tim" Burton was born in California in 1958. He is considered one of the most visual and imaginative filmmakers of all time. In addition to the films mentioned above and the magical, surreal, gothic style, with their own universe, Burton is currently working on a production called Wednesday, a spin-off of The Addams Family. The series will premiere this year on Netflix and stars Latina actress Jenna Ortega.
He awakened his passion for the arts from a very young age — from photography to painting. At 12, he shot his first animated short film with an 8mm camera.
He studied at the California Institute of the Arts, and his work brought him to the attention of Walt Disney, where he worked for several years preparing scripts and designs. In the 1980s, he left the company and started his own personal projects.
