The renowned bar Alquímico, located in the Historic Center of Cartagena, continues surprising with the international recognition it receives. 

On the afternoon of Tuesday, Oct. 4, the list of the 50 Best Bars in the World was announced, a list dedicated to finding the best cocktail bars in the world.

For this edition, the bar from Cartagena entered the top 10 for the first time. Alquímico, founded by Frenchman Jean Trinh, ranked precisely 10th in the world. 

"Alquímico is not just a bar. First, because each of its three floors has its own identity. Second, because Alquímico is also a farm in Colombia's coffee region, 900 km south in Finalandia, which co-owner Jean Trinh acquired in 2019. Operated following permaculture principles, it provides Trinh and his team with most of the produce needed to make the idiosyncratic house ingredients that go into the cocktails, whether it's pine extract or the citrus cordial that goes into the Gimlet," reads the World's Best description of the establishment.

Rated "more than a bar" by World's Best, Alquímico unites Colombian traditions with the most innovative mixology in one place.

In the complete list of the "next best" that includes the 51 to 100 best in the world, there are two more Colombian bars — El Barón, from Cartagena, in the 66th position, and La Sala de Laura, in Bogotá, in the 70th position.
