Starting this Saturday, May 21st, Cartagena will receive the main sailing ships from different Latin American countries, as part of the most important event of its kind that takes place every four years: Sail Cartagena 2022.

This year, the Sail reaches its fifth edition and will bring together the Naval Training Vessels Almirante "Juan Bautista Cambiaso" from the Dominican Republic, "Capitán Miranda" from Uruguay, "Cisne Branco" from Brazil, "Cuauhtémoc" from Mexico and the ARC "Gloria" from Colombia.

Rear Admiral Javier Alfonso Jaimes Pinilla, director of the Almirante Padilla Naval Cadet School, explained that during these days, locals and tourists will be able to see these emblematic vessels and interact with their crews, to learn a little about life at sea.

"There will be several important moments, the first of them is the arrival that can be seen from strategic points in the city, then they will be at the dock of the school, where people can approach to learn a little more about this and finally on May 26th, when they set sail to their places of origin", explained this officer.

This meeting, which is held every four years, was born on the occasion of the celebration of the bicentennial of South America's independence with the leadership of the Chilean and Argentinian Navies, and the welcome of other Latin American nations; being a scenario of projection and tourist and commercial positioning for Colombia and Cartagena.

Sail Cartagena de Indias is part of "Velas Latinoamérica 2022", an event that takes place every four years and brings together all the seafaring culture, the naval culture of Latin American countries and their traditions.

It began in February in the city of Rio de Janeiro and will travel to the ports of Punta del Este and Montevideo (Uruguay), Mar de Plata (Argentina), Punta Arenas and Valparaíso (Chile), and El Callao (Peru).

The entrance to the event will be free and will be held from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm in the facilities of the Marine Infantry Battalion No. 12 of Bocagrande, where visitors must have their identity card and the Covid-19 vaccination card for their entrance to the activities, according to the Director of the Naval Cadet School Almirante Padilla, Javier Jaimes Pinilla.
