For the first time in it’s 20-year history, the National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders (NALCAB) will have a women-led executive committee.

Its recently announced 2022 Board Officers features four prominent women leaders.

NALCAB’s 2022 Board Officers include:

Chair: Isabel Rubio

Isabel Rubio is a seasoned nonprofit professional and founder of Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (¡HICA!) with over 20 years of experience working with low-income communities, particularly Hisapnic immigrants in Birmingham, Alabama.

A native of Mississippi and second-generation Mexican American, Rubio has been greatly influenced by the change brought to the state by the Civil Rights Movement. She is deeply involved in her community and serves on boards locally, regionally and nationally. In addition to NALCAB, she also serves on the board of Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, Alabama Business Charitable Trust, Regions Financial Corporation Diversity Council, LiftFund CDFI, and ASISTA.

Vice Chair: Bea Stotzer

Bea Stotzer is the CEO of Los Angeles-based real estate development firm NEWCapital. She is a nationally recognized business leader and advocate for creating economic and business solutions for economically disadvantaged families.

Throughout her career, Stotzer has set the vision for several organizations, helping establish long-lasting economic and business opportunities.

She serves on several boards, including as a founding member of Inner City Arts, HOPE, Women’s Law Center and New Economics for Women (NEW). For NEW, she leveraged an initial $97,000 United Way grant into a successful $260 million investment.

Treasurer: Janie Barrera

Janie Barrera is the founding president & CEO of LiftFund, one of the nation’s largest micro and small business lenders. As president & CEO, she has received recognition for her accomplishments, including the Small Business Administration Financial Services Advocate of the Year and Minority Enterprise Development Consortium’s Corporate Advocate of the Year.

Barrera has served on many national, state and local boards, including the Federal Reserve Board’s National Consumer Advisory Council. She was also appointed by President Barack Obama to the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability.

Secretary: Shelley Marquez

Shelley Marquez is the senior vice president and community relations senior manager at Wells Fargo, where she is in charge of managing the community relations team across 13 states.

With over 35 years in the financial services industry, 28 of which at Wells Fargo, she has been a key contributor to the company’s community outreach, stakeholder engagement, charitable contributions, and reputation activities.

Marquez is active in the community and currently serves on the board for Housing Colorado, and Community First Foundation.

“As NALCAB marks its 20-year anniversary this year, it’s only fitting that we’ve reached this fantastic milestone,” said Marla Bilonick, president & CEO of NALCAB, in a statement. “Our Board has always had formidable Latina leaders represented, but as a Latina myself, to have these four experienced and influential women ushering NALCAB into our next chapter, is nothing short of inspirational.”

Bilonick, herself, made history earlier this year, becoming the first Latina unanimously elected as chair of the Community Development Advisory Board for the US Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institution. She is also just the second woman to fill the role.

Additional board members for NALCAB include Ruby Azurdia-Lee, president of Communidades Latinas Unidas en Servicio; Rose Garcia, executive director of Tierra del Sol Housing Corporation; Luis Granados, executive director of Mission Economic Development Agency; John Herrera, senior vice president of Self-Help; Fernando Lemos, executive director of Mi Casa, Inc.; Pedro Ramos, executive director of JPMorgan Securities; Raul Raymundo, CEO of The Resurrection Project; Rafael Torres, executive director of Azteca Economic Development & Preservation Corporation; and Raul Vazquez, CEO of Oportun.

NALCAB is a national network of 150 member organizations that anchor institutions in geographically and ethnically diverse Latino communities across 40 states, Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico.
