So this came out of left field.

A year ago today, Mayor Jim Kenney and state Sen. Anthony were duking it out in the race to become Philly's 99th mayor. They were at loggerheads for most of the campaign. And as everyone knows by now, Williams, who entered the race as a frontrunner with stacked coffers, lost by a landslide to Kenney in the Democratic primary.

But the past is past, apparently. Or maybe it's just politics.

In a new ad titled "We Agree," the former foes go buddy-buddy behind Stephen Zappala’s campaign for Attorney General.

“When we ran for mayor, we didn’t agree on everything,” Williams says.

"I'll say," Kenney chuckles.

“Now, we agree on some very important things,” Williams goes on.

You know how the rest unfolds.

It's a clever setup, and an effective ad for Philadelphia Democrats at least. The context of the endorsement would be lost on anyone outside the Delaware Valley.

But as the race to replace embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane heats up, this endorsement also shows some political division between Kenney and his allies in City Hall.

In February, nearly half of City Council rallied behind a different candidate in the Attorney General's race, Montgomery County Commission Chairman Josh Shapiro. At the head of the pack was Council President Darrell Clarke.

Zappala, the district attorney of Allegheny County, has also made allies in high places.

Electricions' union leader John Dougherty, known by most as "Johnny Doc," has been gathering support for him since late last year. And Zappala has since gotten nods some of the Philadelphia's top Democratic brass, including his own group of City Council members as well as the prominent United Ward Leaders of Color.
