There are over 6,000 languages spoken in the world today, however some are close to becoming extinct.

According the United Nations, half of those languages may be extinct by 2100 due to lack of speakers. About 500 of the 6,000 - 7,000 languages have fewer than 20,000 speakers left.  Many of the endangered Native American languages in the U.S. are close to extinction because they only have a few remaining fluent speakers, like Marie Wilcox of the Wukchumni tribe in California.

Wilcox is the last person in her tribe that can fluently speak the Wukchumni language. In a short film by Global Oneness Project, Wilcox’s process of trying to save her language through the creating of a Wukchumni dictionary, is explored.
