Commuters and frequent travelers in the Northeast know that Wi-Fi on a $100 train ride is the same quality as Wi-Fi on a $10 bus. That could change as Amtrak announced a reboot for its notoriously flawed Wi-Fi system, creating a faster, more reliable online connection with the ability stream video and download files, things that Amtrak bans under its current system.

Internet access is so shoddy throughout the Northeast rail corridor because Amtrak uses the same towers that mobile phones use for data. To solve the issue, the rail service provider plans to construct its own network in the Washington, D.C. to Boston corridor, a project that could be completed by the end of the year.

What may sound like an insignificant perk to some is a dream-come true for others, especially those who travel long hours between the Northeast's major cities and attempt to work through inconsistent bouts of internet access.
