Dr. María Artunduaga, a Colombian physician and scientist, has been recognized for her outstanding work in the field of medical technology. In 2024, her company Samay was selected to participate in MedTech Innovator, the world’s most prestigious medical accelerator, making it the first Latin American company to achieve this recognition.
Samay, founded by Dr. Artunduaga, developed “Sylvee,” a portable device powered by artificial intelligence that monitors lung function in real time. This device can predict respiratory attacks several days in advance, facilitating early interventions and reducing costly hospitalizations.
Participation in MedTech Innovator provides Samay access to a platform of strategic events, networking opportunities with investors, hospitals, and insurers, and the chance to compete for non-dilutive funding of up to $800,000.
Dr. Artunduaga, originally from Huila, Colombia, has dedicated her career to health innovation, inspired by the loss of her grandmother due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Her commitment and leadership have been essential in positioning Samay as a pioneering company in digital health and medical technology.
