FDA Updates Recall of Over 2 Million Granola Bars Sold in Popular Supermarkets
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently updated the voluntary recall of more than 2 million MadeGood granola bars due to the possible presence of metal fragments in some products.
This recall, initially announced in December 2024, has been classified as Class II by the FDA, meaning that consumption of the products could cause temporary or medically reversible adverse effects on health, though the probability of serious consequences is remote.
Affected Products
The recalled granola bars include a variety of popular flavors, such as:
- Chocolate Chips
- Mixed Berries
- Strawberry
- Cookies and Cream
- Banana Chocolate
- Birthday Cake with Chocolate
- Chocolate Crumble Cookie
- Vanilla with Chocolate
These products were manufactured between January and November 2024 and were distributed in the United States, Canada, and other international markets.
Reason for Recall
Riverside Natural Foods Inc., the parent company of MadeGood, decided to recall these products after receiving seven consumer complaints about the presence of small metallic bristles in the granola bars.
Although no injuries have been reported in connection with this issue, the company chose to proceed with the recall as a precautionary measure. An internal investigation identified that the contamination was due to an isolated problem in the manufacturing process, which has already been corrected.
Recommendations for Consumers
Consumers who have purchased the affected granola bars are advised not to consume them and to return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.
For more information or assistance, MadeGood has provided a customer service hotline at 855-215-5695, available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).
Additionally, full details on the recalled products, including UPC codes and expiration dates, are available on the company's official website.
This incident highlights the importance of quality control in the food industry and the need for consumers to stay informed about potential risks associated with the products they purchase.
