Woolite Delicates Detergent Recalled Due to Bacterial Contamination Risk

Reckitt Benckiser LLC has announced the voluntary recall of approximately 16,200 bottles of its Woolite Delicates detergent in the United States due to potential contamination with Pseudomonas bacteria, including Pseudomonas oleovorans. These bacteria, commonly found in soil and water, may pose a serious health risk to individuals with weakened immune systems or those using external medical devices, as they can cause infections requiring medical attention.

Recall Details

The recall affects 50-ounce bottles of Woolite Delicates with lot codes S24364, S24365, and S24366. These products were sold exclusively through Amazon in January 2025. The lot codes can be found printed on the upper back portion of the white bottle, which features a light pink cap and label.

Health Risks

Exposure to Pseudomonas bacteria is especially dangerous for people who are immunocompromised or who use medical devices. The bacteria can enter the body through the eyes or broken skin, potentially causing serious infections. However, people with healthy immune systems are generally not affected.

Consumer Recommendations

Consumers who have purchased the affected product are advised to stop using it immediately and contact Reckitt for a full refund. To receive the refund, customers should write their name and the word “Recalled” on the back of the bottle using a permanent marker, take a photo that shows both the UPC and lot code, and email the image to ConsumerCare_USA@reckitt.com. Once the refund is received, the product should be disposed of in household trash—do not pour out the contents or attempt to recycle the bottle.

Prevention and Communication

So far, no incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with this issue. Reckitt and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) are working together to ensure consumer safety and have shared detailed recall information on their respective websites. Consumers can visit https://www.woolite.us/Voluntary-Recall/ or contact Reckitt directly at 800-228-4722, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.

Conclusion

This recall highlights the importance of continuous quality control and consumer vigilance, especially for products related to cleaning and personal care. Consumers are encouraged to stay informed and follow official guidance to protect their health and safety.
