Tornado outbreak moved through parts of the South in the U.S., killing at least 30 people. The giant storm system which started on Sunday, April 27, spawned massive tornadoes across several states resulting in flattened homes, torn apart neighborhoods and even snapped and uprooted trees.

"People were running around screaming, trying to find their kids. There was nothing left," Melba Reed told Reuters as she described the aftermath of a tornado in Louisville, Mississippi.

Arkansas and Mississippi suffered the heaviest damage and currently has the largest number of deaths, more than 23 people.

According to Reuters, deaths were reported in Oklahoma and Iowa on Sunday, and Alabama and Tennessee on Monday. Governor Robert Bentley declared a state of emergency in Alabama and President Obama declared a state of disaster for Arkansas Tuesday, April 29, gathering federal funds to assist the recovery.

The National Weather Service just issued five tornado watches and warnings for several counties in North Carolina.
