Sounds like a overstatement, doesn’t it?

Here at AL DÍA we believe, out of the passion that we have for this great city, that Philadelphia could extend its  current Renaissance all the way to the most excellent of the Arts in our electronic age.

This week we are publishing the great news that the Philadelphia Latino Film Festival is coming back this year, from June 10 to June 12, with a very “Boricua” lineup that affirms the growth of Latino cinema.

Not only this, but the fact is that AL DÍA has an understanding with the Kimmel Center that might result in the enactment in Philadelphia of yet another ingredient that could help the city understand and feel more confident about being a center in the East Coast where the best films are shown in the best venues, and eventually, decades from today we see the evolution towards a city that also can produce them.

Haven’t we seen so many times in our city so many films that have been shot in our streets? But they have been done by somebody else, with outside capital and talent that don’t belong to the Philadelphia region.

Remember the movie “Philadelphia?” A great national hit across theaters in America.

We certainly have the drama to create excellent narratives. It doesn’t mean we don’t have the ingenuity to be the narrators of our own story.

We believe there is something wrong with this picture.
