No appeal on marriage equality ruling in Pennsylvania

On Wednesday, Governor Tom Corbett announced that he would not pursue an appeal against yesterday's ruling by a federal judge that Pennsylvania's gay marriage ban is unconstitutional. Corbett argued that it was unlikely that the case would succeed if appealed.
Since yesterday, any same-sex couple could immediately apply for a marriage license. To celebrate the judge's historic decision, Philadelphia's City Hall extended registration hours today, from 8 AM to 7 PM.
A Franklin and Marshall College poll from earlier this year found that a majority of Pennsylvania voters favored legalizing same-sex marriage. In November, voters will choose the next Pennsylvania governor. Yesterday, the Pennsylvania gubernatorial primaries resulted in an easy win for Corbett as the Republican nominee, and a victory for Tom Wolf as the Democratic nominee.
