Trump spoke Sunday afternoon with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, with whom he "exchanged views on the growing threat from North Korea," the Office of the Press Secretary at the White House said in a statement.

"They reaffirmed that the United States-Japan Alliance stands ready to defend and respond to any threat or action taken by North Korea," the White House said, adding that both leaders spoke about their "unity with respect to increasing pressure on the (Pyongyang) regime to change its dangerous path."

Last Friday, Trump met at the White House with his South Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-in, and both agreed on a coordinated, decisive response to the North Korean regime and its ceaseless weapons testing.

In their conversation, Trump and Abe said they expect to meet again this week during the G20 Summit in Hamburg.

The subject of the North Korean threat and its nuclear and ballistic missile program was also the focus of Trump's talk with Chinese President Xi Jinping, in which both leaders "reaffirmed their commitment to a denuclearized Korean Peninsula."

Trump repeated to Xi his "determination to seek more balanced trade relations with America's trading partners," and both looked forward to meeting again at the Hamburg summit.

The US president also spoke on Sunday individually with King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi, and Emir Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar.
