If Donald Trump does not get his border wall, he will look for other ways to create walls inside the country.

According to CNN, the national security secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, approved a new policy on Friday (to be unveiled on Monday) where anyone caught illegally crossing the border will be immediately processed.

An official of the Department on condition of anonymity provided the information, ensuring that the “zero-tolerance policy” of the Administration will continue to stand even more accentuated.

This new measure will imply that "even if immigrants caught at the border illegally have valid asylum claims, they could still end up with federal criminal convictions on their records regardless of whether a judge finds they have a right to live and stay in the United States," the report continues.

Thus, Attorney General Jeff Sessions' new campaign to criminalize all immigrants on the border aims to eliminate previous practices in which people found in US territory after having crossed the border illegally were immediately sent on buses back across the border, as the Los Angeles Times explained.

The most serious aspect of this new policy seems to be the fact that if an adult crosses the border with their children, they will be separated while waiting for the criminal proceeding.

Currently, border patrol agents usually try to keep families united by sending all their members to the same detention center, but with the new policy "most parents will be prosecuted and children sent to a separate refugee facility," the official said.

This was stated by Sessions during a conference in Scottsdale (Arizona) on Monday, when he said that "if you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you and that child will be separated from you as required by law. If you don’t like that, then don’t smuggle children over our border," according to Politico.

Under these new rules, "children will be classified as unaccompanied minors if their parents are arrested on illegal entry charges, which will put them in the custody of the Health and Human Resources Department until they can be placed with a guardian," the report continues.

However, families seeking asylum by voluntarily crossing at an official border crossing will be allowed to stay together while seeking protection status.

Considering that the rates of illegal crossing across the border have already dropped during the Trump Administration, this new measure only seeks to continue to establish fear and terror in the shoes of so many immigrants who desperately seek to save their lives and those of their children when crossing the border "illegally".
