"Congressman Steve Scalise has been readmitted to the intensive care unit for new concerns about an infection. His condition is considered serious, "reads the MedSar medical center professionals' statement in Washington, which was published on Scalise's Twitter account.

The wound would have been caused by a hip rifle shot from a June 14 shooting during a baseball training session in Alexandria, Virginia. "The bullet had pierced his pelvis, fractured bones, injured internal organs and generated intense bleeding," Univision reported.

The attacker was identified as James T. Hodgkinson (66), who was shot down by police forces during the confrontation. Subsequent reports stated that the subject had worked on Democratic senator Bernie Sanders' campaign.

For several national media, the attack on Scalise was paradoxical, since the congressman is a "strong defender of the arms", forming part of the National Rifle Association (NRA).
