In addition to the shock that hit many after witnessing the siege of the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump domestic terrorists, many top prosecutors at the state and federal level got to work identifying and arresting the numerous perpetrators captured in photographs and videos spread across the internet on the day.

Some of the most prominent have already been arrested.

Richard Barnett, a northern Arkansas native who was captured by photographers kicking his feet up on Nancy Pelosi’s desk, was visited by the FBI and arrested on Jan. 8.

Jake Angeli, also known as the ‘QAnon Shaman,’ who was shown facing off with security alongside other insurrectionists inside the Capitol has also been taken into custody.

The same fate is true of Adam Johnson, the smiling man photographed carrying a lectern and countless others that have been identified and arrested in the days since the siege.

The total number arrested and charged from Jan. 6 is approaching 100, while many more are being fired from their jobs in response to their presence that day.

“Stay tuned,” was the message of Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro to anyone from the state that partook in the day’s events as part of a recent interview with CBS21

Shapiro’s office has also partnered with the FBI in the effort to track down perpetrators from the state.

So far it hasn’t filed any formal charges, but he told WITF that one the office can levy against PA perpetrators is conspiracy to break the law in another place.

While investigations are ongoing, Shapiro’s words have had a ripple effect across the state.

On Jan. 10, the Philadelphia Police Department announced an internal investigation into an officer that was supposedly at the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot. For the time being, Detective Jennifer Gugger has been removed from her position in the department’s Background Investigations Unit.

In the interview with CBS21, Shapiro also laid into the eight Pennsylvania congress members that continued to push unfounded claims of election fraud even after the violence subsided.

“The first thing that some members of Congress did, including some from here in Pennsylvania, was to return to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, and continue to lie,” he said.

The objection to Pennsylvania’s electoral vote certification was eventually voted down in the early hours of Jan. 8 and Joe Biden was certified as the next president of the U.S.

But it wasn’t just federal legislators in the spotlight on Jan. 6.

A number of current and former local legislators from across the country were also present on Capitol Hill on the day of the siege.

West Virginia Delegate Derrick Evans was elected to office in 2020 and announced his resignation on Jan. 10, after he posted a video of himself storming the Capitol on Jan. 6.

He is also facing charges for his role in the siege.

In Pennsylvania, state senator Doug Mastriano is facing growing calls for his resignation after he organized a bus trip to the rally held by President Donald Trump before the riot began.

He also posted a number of photos of himself at the rally.

One of them also featured former PA lawmaker Rick Saccone, who has since resigned from his teaching position at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

In response to the riots, Mastriano released a statement condemning the violence and storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

He said he and his wife fled the area of the demonstration once it turned violent and called on all who infiltrated the Capitol to be “prosecuted.”

Mastriano has yet to respond directly to calls for his resignation.

Meanwhile, the FBI is continues fielding tips to help identify any people that took part in the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol.
