Terror hit the UK again on Saturday, just a few days ahead of its general election, with two attacks on Saturday night in London, in which seven people were killed and 48 wounded, while three terrorists were shot dead by the police.

As reported in The Guardian, police were called when a white rental van ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge at about 10.08pm Saturday night. The van continued on to nearby Borough Market, a popular outdoor market, similar to Terminal Reading Market in Philadelphia,  where three attackers emerged and carried out multiple stabbings.

Armed police arrived and shot the attackers dead within 10 minutes. The attackers were armed with knives and wore what turned out to be fake suicide vests.

The United States President on Saturday reacted quickly to reports of a possible terror attack in London by urging to be smart, vigilant and tough and impose a travel ban.

"We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!," Donald Trump tweeted.

Trump made the statements, shortly before the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, described the incidents as terrible.

The travel ban request comes after Federal Courts twice suspended executive orders to temporarily ban the entry of nationals from several Muslim countries, something the White House denied to qualify as a veto.

In another tweet later, Trump offered help to the United Kingdom:

"Whatever the United States can do to help out in London and the U. K., we will be there - WE ARE WITH YOU. GOD BLESS!," was his most recent tweet after spending Saturday playing golf on a Trump Organization resort in the neighboring state of Virginia.

In a more conventional line, the State Department issued an official statement condemning London's cowardly attack and offered "any kind of assistance that the UK authorities may require."

Leaders of the main European Union institutions and member states on Sunday expressed their condemnation of the terror attacks perpetrated in London which left six dead and expressed their solidarity with the United Kingdom and the victims.

Many took to social media to express their repudiation of the attack and share their views.

"My heart and mind are in London after another cowardly attack," tweeted Donald Tusk as President of the European Council. "Europe stands by UK in fight against terrorism," he added.

"Thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Please stay safe," Tusk's European Commission counterpart, Jean-Claude Juncker, also tweeted from his Twitter account.

French President Emmanuel Macron voiced his support for the UK and said France "will continue to fight terrorism with all its powers, alongside the United Kingdom and all affected countries."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she was sad to receive the news of attacks in London.

She expressed her solidarity with the British saying, "Today we are united across borders in horror and mourning, but also in determination."

She stressed a common "determination" in the fight against terrorism.
