The political and economic crisis in Venezuela is taking a high toll. 

In the past days, two major US corporations decided to cease operating in the country. Both General Motors (GM) and United Airlines will be pulling out of the Latin American country, undergoing a political and social crisis without precedents under Maduro's government, as reported in El País.

GM said on Friday it would be leaving Venezuela after 69 years in the country. In April, Venezuela's Supreme court embargoed GM's assets at its assembly plan, which employed more than 2,000 workers. Production of cars had practically stopped.

On Saturday, United Airlines on Saturday pulled the plug on daily flights to the country. The carrier, like many other international airlines, has decided to cancel its direct flights from Houston and Caracas. The main reason is that the Venezuelan governments owes billions of dollars to airlines and Air transport companies. In addition, Inflation has made the purchase of tickets in local currency impossible.
