Last week on Friday, June 27, Fire Commissioner, Derrick J.V. Sawyer promoted 29-year-old Fire Captain, Peter Crespo. The first Latino appointed to the position of Deputy Commissioner. 

"It is a proud day for me to represent the Latino community, as well as the Latino members of the Philadelphia Fire Department," Crespo said. 

Mayor Nutter's series of appointments includes a diverse group including the first female to become Deputy Fire Commissioner, Diane Schweizer, who is currently the deputy commissioner of administrative services and Executive Chief, Jesse Wilson, appointed to deputy commissioner of operations.
