On October 29, Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro visited the AL DIA News offices for a brief interview. As former attorney general Kathleen Kane was forced to step down due to her conviction of perjury and obstruction of justice, the race has been centered around ensuring the candidates can not only protect the people they serve but also offer total transparency once they take office.
Running against Republican State Senator John Rafferty, Josh Shapiro is the Montgomery County commissioner who has been pinned as the most likely candidate to win the seat this November.
In our interview, Shapiro touches on a wide selection of topics from the status of Philadelphia as a sanctuary city and citizens’ environmental rights, to gun laws in Philadelphia and and controlling the opioid epidemic. His answers cover policy approaches, personal stories he’s encountered during his campaign, and what he plans to do on his first day of office. This interview gives an insight into his most deeply held views and plans for the office.
