Today Juntos hosted a protest titled, "Defy Trump: Expand the Sanctuary," with Mijente.

The group stationed outside of City Hall with a message to the Mayor, City Council, and the city: a sanctuary city means a sanctuary for all.

Focusing on immigrants, Muslims, trans people, and black communities, the groups spoke out against adversity they are facing from external groups as well as the city, state, and federal administrations they believe have not been totally on their side.

Under the current administration, the group has said that "what's clear is that it will be on us, our communities, and our local officials to protect and defend our loved ones who call Philly home," according to their event description.

"Our city has been a leader to stand up to federal deportation efforts and refuse to let Immigration agents' requests violate constitutional rights. But with Trump's escalating and expanding attacks, it takes more than that locally to protect everyone who needs it. We need to defy Trump, defend Philly, and expand sanctuary," the group says.

Featuring speakers outside of City Hall and allowing for the community to share, the group wanted to ensure that everyone had a voice.

The protest then went to Arch Street United Methodist Church to visit Javier Flores. A man who is originally from Mexico and was seeking asylum at the church. They told the story of how his son has to sleep with him every night because he still has nightmares of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials taking him away.

The protest continued up Broad ST with the group promising the groups efforts to resist will continue.
