Councilman David Oh stabbed during robbery attempt
The councilman was put under surgery after a stranger stabbed him in front of his house.
Philadelphia councilman David Oh was stabbed last night during a robbery attempt.
Police says the incident happened around 10:00 p.m. when the councilman-at-large was approached by an individual who, after asking him several questions and asking for his car keys, stabbed him.
Oh was attacked by the stranger in front of his house, at 5800 Thomas Avenue, when he was unloading belongings from his car.
Oh was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he is under medical observation after having undergone emergency surgery. The councilman's office released a statement saying that Oh is out of danger and recovering from his wounds.
Colleagues and officials from the City administration have expressed their solidarity with Oh. From Iceland, Mayor Jim Kenney lamented what happened and expressed his solidarity with Oh and his family.
"We are all praying for Councilman Oh's quick recovery and thinking of his family during this incredibly difficult time. Whenever violence happens on our streets it is a terrible tragedy. When it happens near our homes, where we are supposed to feel safe, it is all the more devastating. Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to call 911."
Police investigators are canvassing the security cameras in the area to establish the identity of the suspect.
