The most recent poll by The New York Times and Siena College shows that the two presidential candidates with the most options to occupy the U.S. presidential chair are tied with the same voting intentions among voters.

As just reported by the New York newspaper, both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have resulted with 48% favorability among respondents, who were asked for whom they would vote.

This turns out to be one of the closest campaigns in terms of votes in recent decades, notes the newspaper.

The survey results demonstrate several interesting trends. For example, Kamala Harris wins among women with 54% favorability over Donald Trump with 42%, while among men the balance is 41% for Kamala and 55% for Trump.

Another interesting trend is among Hispanic voters, who are becoming a decisive portion of the electorate.

There, Kamala registers a 52% preference, while Trump 42%.

What is most surprising is that the tie comes in the midst of one of the most exotic presidential races in recent times.

First, the Democratic Party's natural candidate, incumbent Joe Biden, resigned after a fatal first debate against Donald Trump. This led to the emergence of the figure of Kamala Harris who managed to rebalance the charges in the eyes of public opinion.

In addition, Trump, the Republican candidate, suffered an attack from which he miraculously came out alive and has had another attack threat. This has led to increased security measures to guarantee the life of the former president.

Another key factor has been the leading role played by tycoon Elon Musk who has not only participated in rallies organized by the Trump campaign, but has also announced a prize of one million dollars a day between now and Election Day for those who sign a proposal "to defend the constitution" that has been pushed by the Trump campaign. The Republican candidate has said he would like to have Musk in government to push a plan to cut public spending.

What is surprising is that none of these facts have changed the balance in favor or against any of the most favored candidates.

This shows a great polarization that no one knows how it could be diluted. What the experts expect is that the presidency of the main world power will be defined by few votes or even that one of the candidates will win by the popular vote, but lose by the votes of the electoral college.

The campaign has already entered its final stretch and the outcome will be totally unexpected, as in good movies.
