Local Superfresh, Pathmark stores to close

Some local Superfresh and Pathmark supermarkets are closing as a result of A&P, a parent company's, file for bankruptcy.

A&P, a supermarket chain that owns brands like Superfresh, Pathmark, and The Food Emporium, has filed for bankruptcy for the second time in five years.

As a result, some local Superfresh and Pathmark stores are closing. Out of the 296 stores, 25 underperforming stores will close including stores in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey.

According to Philadelphia Magazine, the local stores that will close are:

Superfresh

Columbus Blvd. in Philadelphia

E. Baltimore Pike in Kennett Square, Pa.

Skippack Pike in Center Square

Philadelphia Pike in Claymont, Del.

Pathmark

Cottman Ave. in Philadelphia

Franklin Mills Blvd. in Philadelphia

Swedesford Rd. in Devon, Pa.

MacDade Blvd. in Folsom, Pa.

Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington, Del.

What will happen to the other stores? 

Acme will buy 76 of the A&P 296 stores, however which locations have not been disclosed. The sale is not final since other bidders can still submit bids until Septenber.
