Kennett Square's La Comunidad Hispana taps eight community members for board

La Comunidad Hispana, the Kennett Square non-profit that helps low income Latino residents of southern Chester County, has tapped eight members of the community — a number of them Latinos — to sit on its board of directors:

• Lucero Benites, of Kennett Square, is a graduate of Millersville University with a degree in speech communication.

La Comunidad Hispana, the Kennett Square non-profit that helps low income Latino residents of southern Chester County, has tapped eight members of the community — a number of them Latinos — to sit on its board of directors:

• Lucero Benites, of Kennett Square, is a graduate of Millersville University with a degree in speech communication.

• Paloma Gaona Lopez is a native of Mexico, and worked for the Mexican government for 10 years before moving to Chester County in 2003. She works in the food industry and is pursuing a degree in environmental sciences.

• Michelle Sanchez, of Downingtown, has been working with the Maternal and Child Health Consortium of Chester County since 2008.

• Attorney William O. LaMotte III, of West Grove, has practiced law for more than 40 years. He is also a former director of the Delaware Symphony; a former Trustee of the Delaware Multiple Sclerosis Society and former director of the Cheshire Hunt Conservancy.

• Douglas T. Nakashima, of Kennett Square, is the executive director of the Kennett Area YMCA and past president and Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Central New Mexico.

• Paola Rosas-Weed, of Avondale, is the outreach coordinator for the Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America of West Chester. She is the former borough secretary for Kennett Square.

• Emma Tapia moved to Chester County four years ago after living in Jalisco, Mexico, and working as a secretary.

• Monica Dulemba, of Romansville, is a business development officer at DNB First.

Earlier this month, the organization announced it had hired Abner Santiago, of West Grove, as its new Behavioral Health Consultant. Santiago spent nine years at the Latin America Community Center in Wilmington where he was director of the mental health program as well as the coordinator of the organization's domestic violence program. 

The organization, focused on promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles, is the sponsor of Kennett Square's annual ¡Vive tu vida! Get Up! Get Moving! event, which this year had an estimated 1,850 participants.
