Over Memorial Day Weekend, Joe Biden hit the campaign trail, and no, not for his own campaign but to endorse New Jersey Democratic candidate for governor Phil Murphy.

Calling the race one of the most important coming elections, Biden's move to endorse the politician on the rise comes at a time when his own political action committee is being formed.

The primary race in June 6 is vital, considering roughly half of eligible voters were undecided in May, according to NJ.com.

Former Wall Street executive at Goldman Sachs, Murphy's status as a multimillionaire has already shown itself as a source of tension with him leading in the fundraising efforts.

Having lent his campaign $16.3 million of his own money and spending close to $20.1 million in the primary, Murphy has seen his campaign go towards the front of the race.

On Monday, professor of political science and law at Montclair told the Philadelphia Inquirer, “I think that it’s in some ways a prudent decision, because it removes the stigma of so much money influencing the election — at least the general election, which will be an advantage for Murphy,” said Brigid Harrison, a professor of political science and law at Montclair State University.

“I also think that it is a bit of a leap of faith, because once he signs on to this, who knows what’s to come, and he’s constrained in his actions and, more important, in his expenditures,” she said.

But luckily Murphy is no stranger to politics. He served as President Barack Obama’s ambassador to Germany during his first term, from 2009 to 2013.

Murphy's financial decision to cap his spending during the gubernatorial spending was originally reported by the Bergen Record which his campaign confirmed with the Inquirer this week.
