Just off the success of Philly's Immigrant Business Week, the city's City Council moved to further protect the the immigrant contributions highlighted during that time.

Passing a resolution that aims to highlight the cities position on immigrant workers and their support of them. 

The resolution that was passed this week state's working in a comfortable environment as a "person’s fundamental right to earn a living, regardless of immigration status, and affirming the City of Philadelphia’s commitment to protect and secure a safe and dignified workplace for all.” 

The effort to further protect undocumented workers aligns with the city's commitment as a sanctuary city and further doubles-down on the city's positions despite recent actions from both Harrisburg and Washington that aim to cut funding to the city due to their commitment to not honoring ICE detainers and only honoring warrants.

Philadelphia was one of nine municipalities to receive a letter from the Department of Justice and Attorney General Jeff Sessions warning of potential cuts.

But Philly does not seem afraid at all, further statements state an aim to protect workers in industries where “a lack of immigration status leaves many workers vulnerable to discrimination, abuse, dangerous working conditions, wage theft, and retaliation for asserting their legal rights.”
