The Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania (Penn Presbyterian) are the best medical centers in the Pennsylvania region, according to the U.S News and World Report’s “Best Regional Hospitals” ranking. This group of centers in Philadelphia ranked number 1. It’s followed by UPMC-University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh (ranked 2) and Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown (ranked 3).

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Philadelphia) is the fourth best medical center in the state and Lancaster General Hospital (Lancaster) is the fifth. Lankenau Medical Center (Wynnewood) is ranked sixth, Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (Hershey) is ranked seventh and PinnacleHealth Hospital (Harrisburg) is ranked eighth.

Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr (number 9) and Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia (number 10) also made it to the top 10.

The Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian has also a good performance in the national rankings. This medical center is considered the ninth best in the country with at least 11 specialities ranked nationally on each specialty list.

The Ear, Nose & Throat department is the best in the center (ranked fourth on the list in this speciality), followed by the Cardiology & Heart Surgery section (ranked eighth) and the Diabetes & Endocrinology and Pulmonology (both ranked 10).

Wills Eye Hospital of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is another of the local medical centers that performs well in the ranking. It is the second best hospital in the country in the speciality of ophthalmology.

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is number 2 nationally in the best hospitals for children treatment (the first one is the Boston Children’s Hospital).
