Silicon Valley network plays matchmaker with Latino startups and investors
Finding investors for startups may be difficult enough in Silicon Valley. For Latino startups, locating, pitching and securing financing from angel investors can be even more challenging. That's why Latino startup-support company, Manos Accelerator, has added a boot camp for angel investors looking to finance emerging Latino businesses.
Manos cites that fewer than 1 percent of venture-backed companies are founded by Latinos entrepreneurs, even though the number of Latino entrepreneurs has tripled in the past two decades. While the company was working to provide resources to the startups, it recognized another big problem -- a shortage of Latino investors.
The company has now partnered with Angel Resource Institute to launch a network that connects hi-tech, Latino-founded startups to interested angel investors. The network, along with resources like expert-led courses and mentorship, is targeting the problem of underrepresentation from both sides in hopes of creating a more diverse startup ecosystem.
