How do you involve more women in science and engineering? Start with toys marketed to girls.

That was the obvious answer to Supriya Hobbs and Janna Eaves, two University of Illinois students who found themselves the gender minority in their school’s engineering program. The two came together and developed Miss Possible — a line of inspiring dolls for girls that has just raised $85,000 on an Indiegogo Campaign.

Miss Possible plans to feature three roll models — Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie, first African American aviator Bessie Coleman and the first computer programmer, Ada Lovelace — as girls, with corresponding apps that include their backstories and activities.

The line might satisfy kids like 5-year-old Riley, who went viral earlier this year when she wondered why, “all the girls have to buy pink stuff,” rather than cool superheroes.
