Best and worst states to retire
WalletHub ranks New Jersey as one of the worst states to spend your later years. Pennsylvania fares better.

Sorry, New Jersey, you’re not a great place to retire.
According to a WalletHub study released Jan. 16, the Garden State is the second worst place in the U.S. to spend your later years. In comparison, Pennsylvania is crushing it at number 14.
For the study, WalletHub “compared the 50 states across 41 key indicators of retirement-friendliness,” examining health factors, affordability and quality of life.
Pennsylvania ranked high for quality of life (#4), but fared on the average side for affordability (#28) and health care (#30).
Contributing to New Jersey’s low rank, the state came in dead last for affordability, accompanied by mediocre scores in quality of life and healthcare.
WalletHub ranked the following states as the best places in the country to retire:
Florida
Colorado
South Dakota
Iowa
Virginia

Arizona
The only state with a worse overall rank than New Jersey is Kentucky. Joining these two in the bottom five are Arkansas (#46), Mississippi (#47) and Rhode Island (#48).
