The third annual AL DÍA 40 Under Forty event serves to highlight and showcase some of the most diverse and impactful young professionals across the Philadelphia region.

At this year's event, taking place Friday, Aug. 26, Victor Tejada will be one of the 40 honorees.

Biography

Victor Tejada is a delivery driver and entrepreneur who founded Delivery Guys App, a company that helps food businesses and small warehouses increase their volume of orders while increasing their number of delivery orders.

Since arriving in Philadelphia from the Dominican Republic, Tejada has worked as a delivery driver for the main applications in the market. However, during the pandemic he noticed that applications were not efficient enough when it came to consolidating several orders to a single driver.

That is where the idea of starting Delivery Guys App began. Currently, it works in dozens of small local businesses, helping delivery drivers earn more than 30% compared to other applications on the market, while consumers enjoy less waiting time and discounts of up to an additional 10% on each order.

As part of the lead-up to the AL DÍA 40 Under Forty event, AL DÍA asked each of the honorees a set of identical questions and collected their responses.

Here are Victor Tejada's responses:

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your professional career?

I believe that I continue to face the same challenges and that when I can finally overcome one, others appear, which shows me that we can never stop learning. From facing the fact that I have to delegate people so that they do the part of the work that I like the most, and having to deal with the impostor syndrome that sometimes I don't have, these are definitely the main challenges that I struggle to overcome, and that sometimes I think I have overcome them, and suddenly they return to me.

What are steps that can be taken to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in your industry? Why is it important to do so?

One of the things that I am extremely proud of in this industry is that equality and fairness are taken to the best path naturally. Within our enterprise, we work with people from different countries, different genders, from totally different cultures and thanks to this great diversity our company, as well as the industry in general, continues to grow exponentially.

What does being a leader mean to you?

When we think of it, people who are leaders of political parties, religious organizations or sports competitions come to mind. Let's say that in this version, being a leader is being number 1, the person around whom the whole group revolves.

And in general, it can be the image that predominates over this figure. In our case, the type of leadership that we like to highlight is one that focuses on sustainability.

Those of us who work for sustainability need to exponentially multiply our influence in our environment to really spread the change that we need to materialize throughout society.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Within our enterprise we have the goal of being a public company within 6 years, so I can assure you that in 5 years we will be working day and night, trying to meet the necessary metrics to complete that great goal.
