Comcast Spectacor announced yesterday that Dave Scott, chairman of Comcast Spectacor and governor of the Philadelphia Flyers, has decided to retire after 30 years working for Comcast.

He originally joined Comcast in 1993 and was President of what is now Comcast’s Central Division from 1996 to 2005. Scott then served 8 years as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Comcast Cable before joining Comcast Spectacor as President in December 2013.

"Dave is a highly talented executive who contributed to the growth of our business in many ways over the past three decades," said Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation, in a statement.

Under his leadership, Comcast Spectacor has become an internationally recognized leader in the sports and entertainment industry.

In addition to his role as Governor of the Flyers, Scott has led the Wells Fargo Center’s $350+ million transformation into a new arena, and oversaw Spectra, a leading venue management and hospitality company, which was later sold. He also brought  professional lacrosse back to Philadelphia in 2017 by re-establishing the Philadelphia Wings; launched Spectacor Gaming, which expanded the company’s reach on the esports front; and returned professional ice hockey back to Portland, Maine through the acquisition of the ECHL’s Maine Mariners.

“He was one of the early entrepreneurs as we expanded our company nationally… We're very grateful to Dave for all he has done for Comcast, and for his leadership of Comcast Spectacor over the last decade,” Roberts added.

For Scott, he noted that working for both Comcast and Comcast Spectacor “have been the opportunity of a lifetime.”

“I'm very proud of all that we've accomplished over the last 30 years," said Scott in a statement. “It has been an incredible honor to work for such a terrific company and I’m very thankful to Brian for his trust in me.”

The announcement of his retirement leaves Daniel Hilferty as his successor as chairman of Comcast Spectacor and Governor of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Hilferty was previously named the new CEO of Comcast Spectacor in February 2023.

“I’ve enjoyed partnering with Dave since I joined Comcast Spectacor last month and I’m energized about the opportunity to further advance the company,” Hilferty said of his predecessor.

As it pertains to the Flyers, he highlighted that the number one goal is to “consistently compete for the Stanley Cup.”

“It is going to be a process that will take time to get to that pat, but I’m confident we are headed in the right direction with Danny Brière as interim GM, Coach Tortorella, and our hiring of a President of Hockey Operations sooner,” he added.

This endeavor is one focus the leadership team will have while striving to “make the sports complex the best location for sports and entertainment in the nation.”

Hilferty is no stranger to sports, corporate or board leadership roles.

Recently, he led Philadelphia’s successful bid to become a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and also serves as Chairman of the Board of Philadelphia Soccer 2026.

He also served 10 years as CEO of Independence Blue Cross, with tenures as President and CEO of AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies and Senior Vice President of Government Affairs at Mercy Health Corporation preceding that.

As Chairman and CEO of Comcast Spectacor, Hilferty will lead the company’s entire portfolio, and work closely with Spectacor Sports and Entertainment CEO Valerie Camillo to oversee the Wells Fargo Center and lead the Flyers’ Business Operations.

Hilferty will officially succeed Scott as Chairman of Comcast Spectacor on April 17, and as Governor of the Flyers starting July 1.
