The state of Pennsylvania has been awarded $2,882,306 to finance the Home Visiting Program launched by the government and known as the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program, according to that announced by the Department of Health and Human Services. 

“Home visits by nurses, social workers or educators during pregnancy or during the first years of life can make a great difference in the lives of many children and their families”, Sylvia M. Burwell, Secretary of Health and Human Services acknowledged. “The funds awarded today offer Pennsylvania de flexibility to adjust its home visiting programs to the specific needs of the community”.

The initiative, to which $386 million have been allocated at national level, is carried out in nearly one third of the country’s counties (721) with high rates of low birth weight, teen pregnancies, child poverty or mortality. In 2014 alone, the Home Visiting Program provided assistance to 115,000 parents and children.
